How much notice do I need?
Most of our customers reserve their cakes 2 weeks to a year in advance. Unfortunately, this means we may need to decline cake orders for dates that have been booked up. Planning ahead for your event and putting down your nonrefundable deposit will reserve your date and make sure you get that special cake. We recommend placing orders at least 3 weeks in advance, however a minimum of 1 week notice is required. Certain times of the year can book up months in advance. Sometimes we do have space available and can accommodate shorter time requests, just ask!
Is there a deposit needed to hold my date?
Celebration/Birthday cakes and Wedding order require a $75 non-refundable deposit to reserve the date. Orders are taken on a first come, first serve basis, so if your order is cancelled at the last minute, we lose business that we could have had from other orders we turned down, hence the nonrefundable deposit. It is also possible that items may have already been purchased or prepared for your cake. For this reason deposit money will not be returned(w/n 2 weeks of booked date) if an order is cancelled. All cakes must be paid in full one week before the date of delivery/pickup. If placed under a week, payment must be made at the time the order is taken. Phone calls and quotes are not a confirmation of a cake order. Cake orders are not finalized and placed on our schedule until payment is made.
How much is a custom cake?
Buttercream covered cakes start at 4.50 a serving.
Fondant covered cakes start at 5.50 a serving.
We have a minimum $80 order for custom cakes, and a minimum $125 for custom tiered cakes. Most novelty, 3-D, carved cakes start at $10 per serving, with a 15-20 serving minimum. The complexity of your design will factor in to your price.
Why do custom cakes cost so much?
Time and quality! Our cakes are genuinely made from scratch using quality and local ingredients. A lot of time is involved in producing a custom cake. From consultation(averages 1 hour), mixing and baking the cake, making the fillings, buttercream, fondant/modeling chocolate to making the decorations for your cake, torteing/stacking your cake, and then decorating it. Plus all the minor details in between, such as preparing a decorative cake board, a large enough box, and making sure the cake will be structurally sound at your event. All of these details take time. A custom cake can take anywhere from 2 to 12 hours or more, depending on its complexity!
Don’t all bakeries make everything from scratch?
Actually, no. Some bakeries claim to be from scratch, but use box mixes, and/or buckets of pre-made icings and fillings. What scratch baking means to us is using real ingredients from the start (like flour, sugar, butter) and quality ingredients(Valhrona and Callebaut chocolates and Maple View Dairy). We make all our cakes, fillings, buttercreams, cookies, and pastries from scratch.
Do you offer tastings?
Sort of! Because we are primarily a cupcake shop offering several flavors of cake, buttercream, and fillings everyday, we do not offer a "traditional" tasting. You are more than welcome to come in and purchase an assortment of cupcakes to try out and arrange a consult with us to discuss your custom order. For cupcake or custom cake orders of $200 or more-we will deduct your tasting purchase of up to 4 cupcakes($12) off your final balance if you decide to book with us.
What flavors can I choose?
Any! There is no additional charge for choosing different flavors for each tier. However we find its best to stick with 2 different flavors at most, too many choices can make serving the cake a "challenge" to your guests.
Do you offer fresh flowers?
No. You must contact your florist and let them know the design of your cake. It is up to you or the florists responsibility to place the flowers on or around your cake. Please keep in mind some flowers are toxic. There is also the option of having us make edible gumpaste or chocolate flowers. If you do decide to place flowers on your cake, please let us know, so that we make the appropriate design choices when decorating your cake.
